Name:  Lynda Boyd
School:  MCS/MA
Education: BA and MS in Communication Disorders - UNH

I have been working as a speech-language pathologist in public education for almost 30 years.  I have also worked
in rehabilitation settings with both children and adults, with Early Intervention agencies, and with Head Start.

In the school setting, speech-language pathologists work with students who have a variety of communication disorders, language learning, or literacy problems. Working in a school setting comes with a variety  of unique opportunities to address the language and speech needs of students with disabilities, working within their natural environment, addressing the needs that may arise from their disabilities, and supporting their access to the general curriculum.  Language skills provide an important foundation for the development of reading and writing, and language continues to be a critical element throughout a student's time in school.  Working as part of a collaborative team, speech pathologists are able to develop and implement programs to provide a variety of intervention strategies to support understanding, speaking, reading and writing skill development.  Our goal is to provide a range of services, focused on prevention and intervention, to support effective classroom participation and learning.
