Moultonborough School District
Technology Committee Meeting Minutes
Wednesday, November 17, 2010
SAU Conference Room
Present: Dawn Alexander-Tapper, Mark Borrin, Gerry Buteau, Michael Lancor, Laura Maroon, and Kim Prause
ABC Members Present: Hollis Austin, Jean Beadle, Ed Marudzinski and Barbara Sheppard
The meeting began at 7:30 a.m. at Moultonborough Academy. Everyone present spent approximately 20 minutes in Ms. Dawn Law’s classroom observing a lesson designed around use of a SmartBoard. Those present then went to Ms. Vicky Johnson’s classroom where Ms. Joanne Lau and Ms. Johnson described various ways in which they use their SmartBoards as instructional tools. Everyone then moved to the SAU Conference room. Suzanne Fullerton and Laura Maroon demonstrated educational uses of iPads and discussed student response systems (interactive handheld clickers).
At approximately 8:30 a.m., Mr. Lancor reviewed and provided additional details regarding the proposed technology budget reviewed on October 29, 2010. Following the October 29 meeting, Mr. Lancor had met with Laura Maroon to further analyze the components of the technology budget.
The hardware portion of the proposed budget for 2011-2012 includes recommendations to purchase student computers (24), iPads (20), mounted projectors (7), SmartBoards (9 to 11) and Student Response System (32 clickers).
Chairperson Borrin suggested that we not cut ourselves short when purchasing hardware. He also suggested that the District’s committee responsible for implementing the 2010-2013 Technology Plan take a look at long-term needs and recommend ways (e.g. technology trust fund, warrant articles) to meet those needs.
Copies of the current Technology Plan were distributed. Mr. Buteau asked if there has been any research regarding student response systems and whether or not they improve learning or achievement. Discussion took place regarding how the District might eventually reach the goal of one computer per student (1 to 1). It was noted that it is important for teachers to know in advance how new technology can be used and what research tells us about successful implementations.
There was consensus among committee members present to include in FY12 Budget Draft #1 the proposed technology budget as recommended on October 29, 2010.
The meeting adjourned at approximately 9:30 a.m.
