“Moultonborough Taking Action” (MTA)
Moultonborough’s Community Anti-Drug Coalition
May 21, 2009 Meeting Minutes
In Attendance: Jessica Barrett, Andrea Bonner, Andy Coppinger, Tom Dawson, Mike Lancor, Lori Lenart, Alicia Morerod, Dorothy Veracka and Kyle Williams
Andrea Bonner began the meeting at 6:00 p.m. in the Moultonborough Public Library meeting room.
• MTA Logo Contest and Brochure: The MA Marketing Class conducted an MA logo contest. MTA members present selected the logo submitted by Andrew Marshall as the first place winner. Second place went to Joe Delaney with third place to Jacqui Menken. The Marketing Class will also produce an updated MTA brochure and an MTA video. Jessica Barrett will announce the logo contest winner on Friday, May 22.
• Steve Steiner: Steve and his wife are founders of the group called DAMMAD (Dads and Mad Moms Against Drugs).
Members of MTA are encouraged to check out the DAMMAD web site. Andrea cautioned that some images are rather graphic. Steve will set up a booth during Spring Into Action and will attend a future MTA meeting.
• Lock-In Evaluation: Evaluation forms were reviewed from the MTA Lock In event held at MA on April 17. Forty-seven grade 9, 10 and 11 students attended this overnight event that seemed to be enjoyed by both participants and
chaperones.
• Chem Free After Prom Party: The thirty-five students who attended this trip on May 16 had a good time. However, only seven of the participants attended the prom. There were a number of suggested reasons for the lack of participation by prom-goers including: the senior trip was the previous weekend, all night was too long, and there were other party
opportunities. Chaperones on the trip were Andrea Bonner, Jody Eichhorn, Tom Dawson and Linda Eldridge. Special
thanks to Jody Eichhorn for her gallant efforts to plan this event.
• Spring into Action: All plans are proceeding nicely and permission slips have been sent home to students in grades 3 to 6. Events and activities include a free barbecue, Fatal Vision goggles ride on a golf cart, K-9 Rony demonstration, ride the convincer and greet the “Gator”. The driveway at the base of the middle school parking lot will be blocked off as well as the auditorium lot for grades 3 to 6 Bike Rodeo.
• Fundraiser Proposals: Kyle Williams suggested a fundraiser in the auditorium that would feature local student bands
and/or musicians. A clinic would be provided to all performers in advance. Admission would be charged to raise funds for MTA. Kyle also suggested holding a coffee house series. By consensus, all present agreed to have Andrea and Kyle
proceed planning these two types of fundraisers.
• MTA Youth Advisory: This concept is still viable for 2009-2010. Joe Delaney and Matt Jensen are two interested
students. A number of grade 7 and 8 students were actively involved in planning a middle school Lock In this coming fall.
• “Live-it” Red Ribbon Week Kickoff Event: This youth fair will take place in Concord on Saturday, October 24. There are state grant funds available to transport MA students.
• SPF/Sig Funding: The Carroll County Collaborative received a $120,000 grant over and eighteen-month period. These
funds include $7,000 to $8,000 for coordinators from three coalitions including MTA.
• End-of-Year Report: Andrea will attend the School Board meeting on Tuesday, June 9 to provide an end-of-year MTA
update.
Next Meeting: It was decided to hold the next MTA meeting in September 2009.
The meeting adjourned at 7:22 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Michael Lancor, Superintendent
