“Moultonborough Taking Action” (MTA)

In Attendance:
Andy Coppinger, Jody Eichhorn,Scott Kinmond, Mike Lancor, Kim Mohan, Alicia Morerod, Kim Prause, DorothyVeracka, Mary Welch and Laurie Whitley
Transitions: This was the last meeting that KimMohan will attend as MTA Coordinator. Mike Lancor will need to review the amount of funds remaining in theCarroll County Prevention Grant for 2008-2009 to determine the length of timethe District can continue to employ an MTA Coordinator.
Moultonborough SubstanceAbuse, Prevention and Enforcement Capital Reserve Account: MTA events such as the Chem FreeAfter Prom Party may be supported by Town Funds, but the Moultonborough SchoolDistrict is the LEA for MTA and therefore the responsible party. The MA Outing Club requested $2,300 tosupport their activities. Thisrequest was tabled by the Select Board. The Select Board would like MTA to help define the purpose of this fundand establish application criteria for organizations requesting thesefunds. Scott Kinmond, JodyEichhorn and Mike Lancor will create a draft document of application criteriaand forward it to MTA members for suggestions before submitting to the SelectBoard. Chief Kinmond will reportto the Select Board that MTA supports using prevention funds to support the MAOuting Club.
There is approximately $7,000remaining in this fund for 2008. The fund originally held approximately $14,500 at the beginning of thefiscal year.
Spring Into Action: Kim Mohan presented a summary of activities and events for this eventon Monday, May 12 beginning at 3:30 p.m. Activities being planned include a barbecue cookout, fatal visiongoggles (walking and golf-cart), K9 demonstrations, DEA mini-presentations, TheConvincer Program, Elks Resource Van and child safety kits. Parental permission is required forstudents under 18 to ride in The Convincer.
After Prom Party: Jody Eichhorn reviewed the itineraryfor this special event which will begin at Midnight on Sunday, May 18 followingthe Saturday night prom at the Brass Heart Inn. As of May 1, twenty-six students have signed up for thisevent. Kim Mohan, Mike Christy,George West, Tom Dawson, Peter John and Jody Eichhorn will chaperone this tripto Somersworth and Portsmouth.
Title IV Grant: The N.H. Department of Education hasannounced competitive funding for Title IV funds not accessed by N.H. schooldistricts in 2006-2007. Theseredistributions funds must be targeted for one of the two following high needareas:
• Abuse of Rx/OTC drugs, and
• Suicidal Prevention
Mike Lancor will email PeterWhelley and Cheryl Simard to see if they have any specific activities we couldimplement by September 30, 2008. If so, then Mike will contact Kim Mohan to assist him to submit anapplication.
