Committee members reviewed a copy of draft #1 of the Operation of Plant – Proposed Budget FY10 as prepared by Kay Peranelli, John Pendexter and Mike Lancor. The proposed budget did not include any salary increases. Recommendations for salary increases will be made by the Personnel Committee. Highlights of the proposed budget include:
• $2,000 increase in custodial overtime ($18,000 to $20,000)
• $5,560 decrease in health insurance due to changes in types of plans
• $2,788 decrease in Workers Compensation
• Continued inclusion of $100,000 for maintenance projects
• $5,850 decrease in property liability insurance
• $4,000 increase in custodial supplies
• $12,600 increase in electric costs (6% increase)
• $33,000 increase in fuel oil costs (16.42% increase)
• $1,200 increase in new equipment
The total proposed increase is $42,235 or 3.25% over the FY09 budget of $1,298,453. After considerable discussion, the committee agreed to include the proposed budget as presented in the 2009-2010 Budget Draft #1 to be reviewed by the School Board on Monday, November 24, 2008.
Committee members reviewed a list of FY09 buildings and grounds projects dated 10/17/08 as well as potential projects for FY10 and beyond. The list includes approximately 40 projects with total projected costs exceeding $400,000. Funding sources for future projects includes the $100,000 line item in the Operation of Plant Budget, funds encumbered for buildings and grounds at the end of various fiscal years, and the Special Budget Trust Fund.
The Buildings and Grounds Committee will need to meet again prior to December 9, 2008 to prioritize potential building and grounds projects for 2009-2010.
The meeting adjourned at approximately 8:25 a.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Michael Lancor,
Superintendent of Schools
